Boyfriend – Etymology of the Word

A boyfriend is a male member of a couple in a romantic relationship. Originally the use of the word implied that the relationship was intended to end the marriage. However, its actual meaning is much broader, as it includes many other types of relationships.

The term is used in adolescent relationships, is also used among older youth of marriageable age, currently, is also used to refer to a couple in a relationship or sexual only in relationships where the couple share a house without being married .

The wedding day, the man who marries is also referred to as the groom (all day even when the wedding is already done).

Youth and adolescents, to start a dating relationship is often a young ‘declared’, although this custom has changed in recent generations.
